The sport is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The first World Cup was held in 2012 in Budapest, Hungary with teams participating from Hungary, Argentina, Belgium, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, United States. Each kick is considered a "stroke", much like golf. Regular greens fees apply, and golf cart rentals are available. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf, playing in groups of up to four, players compete to kick the soccer ball from the tee box into the cup with the least number of kicks. Golfers should wear flat sole shoes, tennis shoes or turf shoes.
